Cayman Islands

Cayman Islands

I got burned, and I got burned badly. The sun seems to work the same in the Caribbean as it does anywhere else in the world, and so does my skin, and they did not like each other. This trip, much like most of our island trips, was a short 3 day hop to get away from our lives as work a day Americans and enjoy ourselves on the beach, not spend too much, and fly back home.

We could not get a straight flight from Baltimore to Grand Cayman, we were routed through Charlotte, which, if done properly, would have taken 5 hours or so, but US Air does very little properly. Our flight to Charlotte was late, and as you can imagine, our second flight was the farthest terminal from our incoming flight. A small jog, a few shoves, and a good bit of panic put us on our plane just in time...to wait. Our captain was sick, he'd eaten death or something. Luckily, the flight attendant told us his amazing record as a pilot and that this was his first time being sick, maybe I'll send him a card.

An hour of waiting, we were finally on our way. An uneventful flight and a sharp, jaunting landing put us in Grand Cayman. A few moments in a quick moving immigration line put us square in the sights of the nicest immigration officer I have ever had the pleasure to deal with. Anyone who travels knows how horrible immigration is, this is not true on Grand Cayman.

We got to our hotel, went to the beach, blah blah. The next day we did a 10+ mile walk on the beach, burned a little bit, enjoyed some hammocking, and went back to the hotel. Watched the sunset, enjoyed some cable TV, got up the next day, enjoyed some beach. Then back to US Airways attempt at flying people somewhere on time, they were unsuccessful again.

The people of the Island were awesome, by the way. Lots of lizards everywhere, quick little shits.

All said and done, the trip was great, the burn was bad, and the pictures were shot on slide film with my Yashica LM.
